New energy efficiency standard for air conditioners to take effect on July 1

Standardization Administration of China announced on its website on January 6 2020 that, The minimum allowable value of the energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for room air conditioners, numbered GB 21455-2019, will replace two existing standards which are GB 12021.3-2010 and GB 21455-2013 and kick in starting July 1, 2020. As the 7th revision after the first edition that was released in 1989, the new standard is the most stringent. It combines the existing energy efficiency standards for fixed speed air conditioners and variable frequency air conditioners by unifying the assessment methods, which means most fixed speed models and variable speed models rated below Grade 3 on the market will be phased out by the new standard.
