(Yicai Global) May 10 -- Changhong Electric’s stock rose after the home appliance maker said it will release a smart television application compatible with Chinese tech giant iFlytek’s artificial intelligence cognition model.
Changhong [SHA: 600839] closed 4.4 percent higher at CNY4.23 (61 US cents) per share today, after jumping by as much as 7.2 percent in the morning trading session.
TV sets equipped with iFlytek’s Spark can better understand and quickly respond to user instructions and demands, a Changhong manager in charge of such matters noted in the firm’s announcement on WeChat yesterday. The app is in closed beta testing, the firm added.
IFlytek’s AI model will empower TVs to offer users better experiences in household entertainment and healthcare, learning guidance, and knowledge encyclopedia, the manager said.
Founded in 1958, Mianyang-based Changhong manufactures, markets, and sells various household electrical appliances, including TVs, air conditioners, digital video disc players, and batteries. It established China’s first home appliance AI laboratory in 2017.
IFlytek unveiled its AI cognition model Spark on May 6, saying it is better than OpenAI’s ChatGPT in generating text, knowledge quizzes, and math ability. Spark will outperform ChatGPT in all aspects by the end of this October, according to Chairman Liu Qingfeng.
After earlier gaining by as much as 3.7 percent, shares of Hefei-based iFlytek [SHE: 002230] ended up 1.8 percent at CNY65.45 (USD9.45) each today.
