March 8 -- Chinese home appliance maker Haier Group Corp. has teamed up with internet and artificial intelligence leviathan Baidu Inc. as it looks to drive smart home products into everyday life.
Haier’s smart home unit will look to provide solutions in seven areas (air, water, cleaning, security, entertainment, health and information) across four living spaces (living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom), Vice President Wang Ye said at a conference on the company’s smart home strategy.
“Baidu has powerful cloud computing, Big Data and AI technologies,” added Haier’s Chief Executive Liang Haishan. “Cooperation between Haier and Baidu is bound to bring a better experience to users.” Liang plans to further smart home appliances to develop a smart service ecosystem and create new business models.
Haier’s customized smart home services feature three layers of support, said Zhao Feng, chief technical officer. The first is the UhomeOS, an operating system for smart homes. The second is the Internet of Things and the third is customized interaction between users and appliances, such as wearable devices, refrigerators and televisions, he explained.
