Global home appliance giant Midea Group Co. Ltd. has strengthened its foothold in South America with the opening of its third manufacturing facility in Brazil, a milestone in the company’s global expansion.
With an investment of more than 700 million yuan ($96.1 million), the campus spans 270,000 square meters and manufactures refrigerators and washing machines. The facility is located in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, 217 kilometers from the capital of the state of São Paulo. With more than 20 million residents, Minas Gerais is Brazil’s second-most populous state after São Paulo.
The strategic location enables the facility to reach 85% of its target consumer base within 900 kilometers, said Shi Chenggui, head of the factory’s refrigerator business.
